This artwork reimagines the infamous UK government crackdown on rave culture during the early 1990s, specifically the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. The Act sought to suppress unlicensed raves by targeting gatherings with “music characterised by a succession of repetitive beats.” In this retro-futurist vision, a towering robotic “Police” enforcer looms over ravers waving glowsticks and smiley-face shirts — a symbol of unity and resistance. The alien spaceship hovering above hints at the otherworldly, transcendent nature of rave culture, while the protest banner “Our Beats Will Not Be Criminalised” captures the defiance of an entire generation. The neon palette, cybernetic gridlines, and dystopian skyline fuse 90s rave energy with a futuristic aesthetic, honouring the resilience of the underground movement.
