This artwork reimagines one of the most symbolic moments of the 1970s Space Age: the docking of American and Soviet spacecraft during the Apollo–Soyuz mission in 1975. Two Pop Art rockets — one clad in stars and stripes, the other painted bold red with hammer-and-sickle emblems — meet nose-to-nose in orbit. Between them glows a radiant, heart-shaped nebula, from which rainbow beams burst outward. Above, a comic-style handshake seals the union with the exclamation: “TOGETHER AT LAST!”
Historically, the Apollo–Soyuz mission marked the first international crewed spaceflight, carried out during the Cold War. It represented a symbolic thaw in U.S.–Soviet relations, demonstrating how science and exploration could bridge ideological divides. In psychedelic Pop Art style, this piece transforms that moment into a cosmic love story — a union of rivals amidst swirling neon galaxies, captured in comic halftones and radiant colour.
